Saint Luke's Episcopal Church
The Church Around The Corner

HISTORY

St. Luke's, founded in 1944, is a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.  The land for the church was donated by A.B. Miller, the founder of Fontana.  The charming English style church was completed in 1948.  Two additional pieces of property were purchased, one an office and meeting building, and the other as a residence for the clergy.

What to expect at St. Luke's

     Church Services

At 10:30 there is a time of study (and coffee) on the lessons to be heard during the service.  The service, called 'traditional' by many, begins at 11:00.   During the service we sing hymns, praise God, hear the scriptures and the sermon, pray for ourselves, our friends and neighbors, and the city, nation and world, as well as any special concerns of the day. We recognize birthdays and anniversaries with special prayers. And we are also spiritually fed as we celebrate Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper.

The Ministry and Mission of the Church

What is the mission of the Church?

The mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.

What is the ministry of the people, the laity, of the Church?

The ministry of lay persons is to represent Christ and his Church; to bear witness to him wherever they may be; and, according to the gifts given them, to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation in the world; and to take their place in the life, worship, and governance of the Church.
